How do I have a Ghant Chart show Task Slippage in Microsoft Project

Ghant Diagram Lesson Goal:

Instruct an effective mechanism to display slippage of one task on another row of the Ghant Diagram using the existing task without adjusting the task start date:

With a Ghant diagram that has already been baselined:
One of the assignments has a planned start date of 10/22 and then complete on 10/24. As of today, 10/27, the assignments have not yet begun.

The final Ghant Chart needs to display:

  • Baseline start 10/22 - projected conclusion 10/24
  • Re-Forecasted start 10/27 - conclusion 10/29.

How to make it:

The first step is to perform schedule maintenance in Microsoft Project so that:

  1. No unstarted work remains earlier than the Status Date
  2. No work remains unfinished with a finish date earlier than the Status Date.
  3. No Actual Begin Date happens after the Status Date.
  4. No Actual Completion Date happens after the Status Date.

Without having Project using percent Completed when performing schedule maintenance, MS Project can't tell how it can adjust the timeline.

This is just a few ways to generate the intended Ghant view:

  • View/Tracking Ghant:
Project displays a view with the chronological graphics for both baseline and current schedule forecast right after one another.
  • Select Format/Ghant Chart Wizard:
Click Baseline and run from there.
  • Tools/Tracking/Update Project:
Click the menu item to reschedule incomplete work so that it starts after mm/dd/yyyy
Fortunately, Microsoft Project supplies the status date during the process.
